“IncEd TPM 2 in Spain

It’s been one year since we started working together on KA2 “IncED: Inclusive Education”, and during these months we have been taking slow but safe steps towards our common goal:

To encourage participation of young people with fewer opportunities and special needs in active social life and for the organizers of all kinds of social events not to be afraid of working with mixed ability groups.

From 10th to 14th of February 2023, coordinators from Portugal, Spain, Estonia and Latvia met in Ourense (Spain), to share the up-to-date project results, make adjustments, use the common know-how of the coordinators in one place, and work on visual design, translations, and the production plan.

More precisely, the main objectives of the second transnational meeting were:

  • To present the current project results to all the partners.
  • To present the work done to date and point out strengths and areas for development.
  • To give an on the spot feedback on project result 2 concepts and finalize the toolkit version content.
  • To create a detailed action plan of the toolkit being developed and share the responsibilities.
  • To agree on an action plan for the testing and production period and design common event approaches.
  • To fine-tune the preparation phase of the C2 (logistics, recruitment, dates).
How did it go?
During the first day we made sure to catch up on the life of our organizations after the last physical meeting (the first training activity in Estonia in July 2022!). The fact that we have monthly meetings helps a lot in keeping track of updates and development, but working in person is always better! In the morning we reviewed the agenda for the meeting and, based on the real state-of-affairs, we added/reshaped objectives to make the most out of the meeting.

First stop: Project Result 1, the “(Un)Manual”
During the research phase of the project we developed an (Un)Manual with more than 85 pages with case stories, recommendations and inspirational advice about work with mixed-ability group. The manual, firstly created in English, will also have a translation to each of the languaged used in the partner countries (Russian, Estonian, Latvia, Portuguese and Spanish), so part of the meeting was dedicated to reviewing the state of each product, work on translations, revisions and graphic adjustments.

Second stop: Project Result 2, the “IncEd Toolbox”
In order to have more information for the creation of the Toolkit, some time ago we had launched a survey for youth work and education practitioners in order to get to know the main characteristics and topics on which they want/need to have tools for their daily practice with mixed-ability groups.

The analysis of the results indicated that, for working with people between 13-15 years old, the most interesting topics are: “Learning”, “Conflict resolution”, and “Team building”, while for those working with youth 18+, the most appealing topics were: “Social inclusion” and “Mental health”.

Collaboratively, we managed to stablish the frame of the exercises, and a first listing of possible methodological approaches to the different topics. With this information, the leading partners responsible for the second project result (Portugal and Estonia) got to work, and by the end of the meeting they had ready several tool prototypes for the rest of the coordinators to test back in their countries.

Coming soon: second training activity in Portugal
During the meeting we also discussed practicalities related to the training course that will take place in Portugal from 2nd to 7th of July. The activity will include 4 participants from Latvia, 4 participants from Spain, 3 participants from Estonia, and 3 participants from Portugal,a nd the aim of this event is to test all the methods and tools that will be developed by then in the PR2 toolkit. During the meeting we prepared the two infoletters with all the information needed, as well as the call for participants and the activity schedule.

Last stop

Before wrapping up the meeting, a last block was dedicated to revising and updating our common action plan with the next steps, schedule the next monthly meeting, as well as working on administration tasks.

We had three wonderful working days enjoying one another’s company, dicovering the local environment and food and “syncing in” even more!
